Comedian Michael Blackson didn’t understand the phrase “read the play” when he tweeted about Brittney Griner that was totally inappropriate. The man who made his fortune parodying African culture against the WNBA star is still being wrongfully detained in Russia.

“When Brittany Griner comes out I want to be the first to give her deek,” he tweeted.

Social media exploded with the conclusion that he might even get Brittney Griner, who is a proud member of the LGBTQ community. She has been married twice. His first was with WNBA player Glory Johnson in 2015, and they were only married for three months. Griner is now married to Cherrelle Griner, who has been vigilantly holding the line in the United States for the release of the Phoenix Mercury center.

Blackson’s comments come as Griner has just appealed his nine-year sentence for drug trafficking in Russia. The two-time Olympic gold medalist was sentenced on August 4 after she was arrested in February at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport when Russian authorities found vaping cartridges containing cannabis oil in her luggage.

Like many WNBA players, Griner plays overseas during the WNBA offseason, volunteering her services to UMMC Yekaterinburg, a women’s basketball team from Yekaterinburg, Russia. She claimed she packed in a hurry to get to the country and did not remember her medical cannabis was in the bag.

Griner’s detention has sparked outrage around the world and shines a light on wrongful American detainees in the country. His appeal was expected as his defense team plans to continue to press the US government for a possible prisoner release. Under Russian law, Griner had to file the appeal within the last ten days.

In July, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken revealed that the United States had made a “substantial offer” to bring Griner home. They are also negotiating to bring home fellow American Paul Whelan, who is serving a 16-year sentence in Russia for espionage. According to reports, the United States has offered to release notorious Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, who is currently serving a 25-year sentence in the United States. He is known as the “dealer of death” for his exploits in the 1990s and early 2000s.

On Sunday, a senior Russian diplomat confirmed that the prisoner swap talks had taken place.

“This rather sensitive issue of the exchange of convicted Russian and American citizens is being discussed through the channels set by our presidents,” Alexander Darchiev, head of the North America department at the Foreign Ministry, told the US news agency. State Tass.

“These individuals are, indeed, the subject of discussion. The Russian side has long called for the release of Viktor Bout. The details should be left to the professionals, based on the “do no harm” principle.

International prisoner exchanges and wrongful detentions are no joke, but for Blackson, who claims to be close friends with Griner, his potential release is a moment to let some air out of the room.

“BG is my mate and she has a great sense of humor, I met her 5 years ago, and we’ve been cool ever since. I know she’s coming out soon, that’s why I’m kidding, so you need stfu Modasuckas,” he tweeted.

Read the play, Michael. Just read the piece.
