How to add links to text or images in Gmail
You can link text and images in Gmail to websites or email addresses. It’s a good way to make your messages useful to your recipients.
To make it easier for your email recipients, you can add links to websites and email addresses directly in your Gmail messages. You can apply links to text directly or add links to images in Gmail itself.
Keep in mind that if your recipient receives plain text emails, they won’t be able to click on the links. To add links to text or images in Gmail, here’s what you need to do.
How to create a hyperlink in Gmail
Most users will prefer to add a Gmail hyperlink to the text. You can link to URLs (website addresses) or email addresses using the mailto: prefix.
Converting URL Text to Hyperlinks
Gmail is smart enough to decide what a link is if you type or paste a web page URL into your email message. This allows you to create the link with one click.
To create a simple hyperlink in Gmail, select the web address you want to link and click the button Connect button in the toolbar at the bottom.
You will immediately see the URL linked to that address. Easy, right? If you want to edit or remove the link, hover your cursor over it and choose an option.
Add links to text
If you prefer to add hyperlinks to the text, such as “click here to visit our site”, you can also do so.
Select the text you want to link and click on the Connect button in the toolbar. When the window opens, choose Web address and enter your link in the box to the right.
You can also adjust the Text to display at the top to edit the link text. Click on Okay to confirm.
As above, you can edit or remove the link by hovering your cursor over it and choosing an option.
How to create a hyperlink in Gmail
A link to an email address works the same way as a link to a website.
Link an email address
If you enter an email address in Gmail, you can create an mailto link from this address. Gmail (or another email client) will automatically start composing a new email to this address when a recipient clicks the email link.
To add mailto links in Gmail, select the email address text and click the button Connect button in the toolbar. You will then see the email address linked as it should.
To edit or remove the email address link, hover your cursor over it and choose an option.
Adding email links to text
If you prefer to link the text to an email address like “customer service email”, that’s pretty straightforward to do.
Select the text you want to link and click on the Connect button in the toolbar. To choose E-mail address in the pop-up window and enter the address on the right. You can also adjust the Text to display box at the top.
Click on Okay once you have finished.
And again, you can edit or remove the link to the email address by hovering your cursor over the link and choosing an option.
How to make an image a clickable link
Besides linking text in your Gmail message, you can also add links to an image. For example, you can link your logo to your business email address or link a photo to information about it online.
Select the image in your message and click on the Connect button in the toolbar. Choose either Web address Where E-mail address and enter the link on the right.
You may want to delete the Text to display text (or the link will appear with your image). Click on Okay to add the link.
To edit or remove the link, place your cursor over the image and choose an action.
